2021 Increase in Colorado General Minimum Wage Rate

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2021, the minimum wage rate for most employees in Colorado is $12.32 per hour. Wages are defined as the entire amount of compensation an employee receives for his or her labor or services. This includes bonuses, commissions, paid sick leave (if paid under the Colorado Health Families and Workplaces Act) and vacation pay, but does not include severance pay. With limited exceptions and exemptions, state minimum wage rate generally applies to employees. State law defines “employee” as any person who performs labor or services for the benefit of an employer, including any migratory laborer. NYC Changes to Paid Sick Leave Law Take Effect Sept. 30, 2020

New York City has amended its Earned Safe and Sick Time Act to align with New York state's paid sick leave law, which was passed in April 2020. These changes went into effect September 30, 2020, and primarily involve new obligations for the city's smallest and largest employers.Some of these updates regarding how much leave must be provided include: Small businesses with four or fewer employees and an income less than $1 million must provide 40 hours of unpaid leave. Small businesses with four or fewer employees but an income of at least $1 million must provide 40 hours of paid leave. Washington State Paid Family and Medical Leave Update

NEWS payroll Washington State Paid Family and Medical Leave Update 12-21-2018While benefits will not be available to employees until January 2020, Washington state’s Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program requires employers to start remitting premiums starting with January 2019 payrolls. The regulations require a contribution of .4% of gross wages. The premium is shared 2/3 by the employees and 1/3 by employers. Starting in January, if you hire workers in the state of Washington, you will see a charge of 1.32% of gross wages.To qualify for Paid Family and Medical Leave, employees must work 820 hours or more in the qualifying period.
